Financial support & grants

Financial support in Guernsey

Grants are available to residents of the Bailiwick of Guernsey who have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) to help with the purchase of equipment, wheelchairs, home adaptions and other necessities that are not paid for by the States of Guernsey.

Due to the nature of funding by the States of Guernsey, the Guernsey group has agreed maximum grant limits that are higher than those available in the UK, and other details may vary substantially from the standard policy of the MS Society in the UK.

About Guernsey grants

Anyone diagnosed with MS in the Bailiwick of Guernsey can qualify for a grant. A very high level review of finances is usually undertaken. We do not take into account any owned property and as a guide, applicants with more than £30,000 in savings or high levels of net household income may not be eligible for financial assistance, unless there are extenuating circumstances. Applicants may be asked to consider making a contribution to the cost of the item.

How to apply for a Guernsey grant

  1. All applications for financial assistance must be made using the application form available from the Support volunteer of the Guernsey Group of the MS Society, or from the MS nurse.
  2. A letter of support from the MS Nurse, MS Physiotherapist or an occupational therapist is also required in all instances. This letter will confirm the need and suitability of the item requested and must state the reason why the States of Guernsey could not provide the required funding. Where possible, two quotes to confirm the price and ensure best value for money are also required.
  3. The form should be submitted to the Guernsey Group Support Volunteer by email on support@mssociety.org.gg for consideration in confidence by the Grants Team.
